Northern Shores offers fine dining, live music and a beautiful view

MECOSTA — Teo and Gayle Glaus, the owners of Northern Shores Supper Club, have worked hard to resurrect the days of long dinners, live entertainment and conversation.

“You dance, have cocktails, have a little dinner and just enjoy the evening,” Teo said, outlining the perfect night out at the club.

French, American, Cajun and South American cuisine round out the restaurant’s international menu.

The husband and wife management team intend to bring back a dining experience reminiscent of the restaurant’s heyday in the 1940s.

“Here, you make a night out of dinner, the way it used to be,” Teo said. “There’s plenty of burger places. What we offer are very unique, very delicious local and international flavors, as well as music, dancing and an incredible view of Blue Lake.

“Comfort food jazzed-up is what what we call it.”

Teo was born and raised in Switzerland. He got his first taste of culinary know-how from his father, a restaurant owner. Teo went to school for hotel and restaurant management and then traveled throughout South America, honing his craft in various restaurants and on cruise liners.

Prior to opening the club, Teo spent eight years as the head chef and food and beverage manager at Mount Mitchell Golf Club, a four-and-a-half star golf club and resort in North Carolina. Gayle managed the wait staff and other day-to-day operations.

The two moved to Michigan in 2006 when the deal on the club was finalized. Since then, the couple has rebuilt the bar, restored the dance floor and rebuilt the kitchen.

Homemade recipes   dominate the menu, such as grilled sesame glazed chicken and shrimp skewers with bell peppers and onions, served with a spicy homemade chutney; and time-honored recipes like Hungarian beef goulash made with sweet paprika, bell peppers, onions, red wine. Wines range from $16-$25 a bottle, and the bar includes a full selection of beer and liquor.

‘The game is always on’ at Antlers Grille and Pub

CANADIAN LAKES — Theron Fisher has spent the majority of his life working in restaurants. The new owner and operator of Antlers Grille and Pub in Canadian Lakes has experience from cooking and bussing tables to executive management.

Now, he is taking on the challenge of his own restaurant.

“I hope to have a comfortable eating dining room that’s as inviting as much as it’s comfortable,” Fisher said. “I want people to feel that comfort as soon as they walk in.”

The eatery has been known as a fixture in the community for years, but Fisher says he hopes to build upon that to create a setting for the entire family with the dining area and aims to always have the “big game” on at the Pub.

“This is a place for everyone to come,” he said. “You can sit down for a classy dinner with your family or with a group of friends to catch the game and have a burger at the Pub.”

For the most part, the menus are interchangeable, Fisher said. The Pub menu will include sandwiches and classic bar items. The Grille menu will feature four separate main areas of beef, pasta, seafood and special dishes, each having five different entrees. Desserts and salads also will be available. Fisher said he and his team hope to make Antlers Grille and Pub like a big city restaurant — the quality of service and food as well as the atmosphere — in the casual, relaxed setting of the area.

The Pub’s menu items range in price from $5-$15, and the Grille prices range from $12-$28. The Grille is open from 5 to 11 p.m. and the Pub from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
